TOP QUALITY CARE

Prosthetic Services

Lower Limb Prosthetics

Lower limb prosthetics are highly variable and dependent on many factors. Some of the many factors that we take into account when designing your custom prosthesis include:

  • Limb Length, (Partial Foot, Symes, Transtibial, Knee Disarticulation, Transfemoral)

  • Previous prosthetic experience and fit style

  • Muscle strength in remaining limb

  • Muscle strength in the rest of the body

  • Limb range of motion

  • Overall health (heart, lungs, kidneys etc)

  • Skin health

  • Household environment

  • Working conditions

  • Outdoor activities in various terrain

  • Use in water or not

  • Sport activities

  • Mechanical vs. Microprocessor Knee options for some people

Personalized Component Selection

Prosthetic feet and knees, and which ones are best for what situation,  is a long conversation. We do our best to educate all of our patients as to why we feel certain components are best for their unique situation.

If you do not feel like your current prosthesis is working for you as well as it could be, or it’s painful to wear, there are many factors that could be at play affecting your fit. Sometimes the solution is very quick and easy, and sometimes it’s a complicated fix.

Please reach out to us for a consultation if you feel there is something not working properly with your prosthesis.

Upper Limb Prosthetics

Upper limb prosthetic devices also come in a variety of types depending on many factors:

Limb length (finger prosthetics, partial hand, transradial, elbow disarticulation, transhumeral)
Scar tissue
Nerve damage
Goals for prosthetic use
Cosmetic vs. functional
Body Powered vs. Myoelectric control

Upper limb prosthetic use is generally more limited as arm amputations are more often than not due to traumatic accidents leading to limbs with a lot of scar tissue or nerve damage. These can be trickier to work around to allow for full time prosthetic use.

We will have a very in depth consultation for all upper limb prostheses to match your limb presentation to the best available technology to try and maximize your prosthetic potential and meet your goals for prosthetic use.

Orthotic Services

Off-The-Shelf Bracing Ideas

Whether you’re recovering from a minor sprain, managing chronic joint pain, or looking for extra stability during your next workout, Off-the-Shelf (OTS) Bracing provides a fast, effective, and accessible solution.

Unlike custom-fabricated orthotics, OTS braces are pre-manufactured in standard sizes, allowing you to get the support you need the same day you walk into the clinic. Designed with adjustable straps and breathable materials, these braces offer a "one-size-fits-most" approach that balances comfort with clinical-grade compression.

Custom Bracing Solutions

When a standard, off-the-shelf brace isn't enough to manage your pain or instability, a Certified Orthotist provides a specialized solution. Custom orthoses are precision-engineered medical devices designed to support, align, prevent, or correct deformities and improve the function of movable parts of the body.

The Orthotist’s Process

The journey to a custom brace involves several clinical steps to ensure the device meets your specific biomechanical needs.

1
Clinical Evaluation: Your Orthotist assesses your range of motion, muscle strength, and gait (walking pattern).
2
Imaging and Casting: We take a 3D digital scan or a physical plaster cast of the limb to create an exact replica of your anatomy.
3
Fabrication: Using the mold, the brace is vacuum-formed or 3D printed using materials tailored to your activity level.
4
Fitting and Delivery: The brace is trimmed and padded. We perform dynamic testing to ensure it functions correctly during movement.
5
Follow-up Care: As your body changes or the device wears, your Orthotist provides necessary adjustments.

Common Conditions Treated

Custom bracing is an effective intervention for a wide variety of neurological and musculoskeletal conditions:

  • Lower Limb: Drop foot, severe Osteoarthritis, ACL/MCL tears, PTTD, plantar fasciitis, partial foot amputations, spasticity management

  • Spine: Scoliosis (TLSO), spinal fractures, post-surgical stabilization

  • Upper Limb: Wrist contractures, nerve injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, spasticity

Frequent Types of Braces or Orthoses

Many types of braces exist and the terminology used by health care professionals can describe the specifics of the brace required. If you are unsure about what you need, please book a consultation with a Certified Orthotist. Consider the list of braces below, if these braces types have been used in your care consider reaching out to an Orthotist to get further information.

Frequent Types of Braces or Orthoses

Understanding the layers of a person' s health status takes a team of people with different specialties and perspectives. A Certified Orthotist can liaise with your health care team including physiotherapist, chiropractors, occupational therapists, orthopedic surgeons, physiatrists, neurologists, kinesiologists, etc. Part of including each other in communicating your desires, goals and ongoing health status will ensure everyone is providing the best, most up-to-date care plan for your needs. If you have any questions or concerns about your bracing/orthotic treatment, please ask questions!

Amber Major, Certified Orthotist says: "A brace is a tool designed to return you to the activities you love by providing a safe and stable foundation for your movement or to aid in healing and well-being."
