Julie's Story

I couldn’t have done it without you

I met Louis in early January 2013 when I was in the hospital recovering from flesh eating disease/group A strep toxic shock. Through the disease I lost my left leg below the knee, all my right toes and left finger tips.

I remember that first visit so well probably because I was in the middle of a bad bout of nausea, lol. Once I got over the nausea, we got down to talking about prosthetics and he fit me with my first shrinker sock. I told Louis I want to do everything I did before and I want to run! Since I got sick 2 weeks before I was to run my first 5k; that became my goal after I got out of the hospital.

It took a couple years, but I’m proud to say, I did run my 5k. I actually became a running clinic leader for the running room and lead multiple learn to run and 5k clinics and have even completed 3 10k races. Louis was right along with me helping me with my running leg and even went to a running clinic Ossur put on.

Louis is so in-tuned with what I’m trying to describe what i’m feeling in my socket that he knows what i’m going to say before I say it!! And he has been so great about indulging me with all my new socket designs, no matter how crazy they are lol. His answer is often “we haven’t done that before, but we can try.”

Thank you Louis for helping me, not only walk, but run!! I couldn’t have done it without you and the Fraser Valley Prosthetic family. I always look forward to my visits to the office, so much so, I post about them on my instagram account lol. I seriously can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me.
